Project 407 Prague Library, Prague (2005) - unrealized
An invitation was published in May 2006 for international competition for a new National Library in Prague. Jan Kaplicky and Future Systems won the competition having presented a 48 m tall building of organic shape with 8 levels. The library proposed an electronically controlled storage system. The top of the building had distinctive glazed ‘eye’ allowing the view from reading room directly to Prague’s Castle. The design considers a superstructure carrying the external skin which is clad by glass mosaic in a champagne colour.
